Repoussé is the traditional art of hammering decorative, raised designs into sheet metal, dating back to 800 BC between Europe and Asia. In China, this intricate metalworking technique took root during the Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD). Using hammers and specialized shaping tools, flat metal is transformed into striking, dimensional works of art. After the metal piece is formed, lacquer is applied requiring a curing period between each layer.
Cleaning solutions will alter the finish/plate. Repoussé accessories and furniture of any finish will patina when placed outdoors or in a humid environment.
